As part of its community outreach program, the James O`Brien Library held a training-workshop entitled Library Management Training Part Two last March 15 - 16, 2011 at its Electronic Resource Center.
In the 2009 Training on Library Organization and Management, the participants were teacher-librarians of public elementary schools from USIC-assisted areas of Buhi, Sagñay, Calabanga, and Cabusao municipalities that were also recipients of books under the "Books for Our Children" Project of the Compassionate Franciscan Sisters of the Poor and Ateneo de Naga University. Said training focused on the basics of organizing, managing, and/or maintaining a library.
This training was participated not only by teacher-librarians from the 3 book-recipient barangay high schools in the 2nd round book-sharing activity in Calabanga last December 14, 2010; the training was well-received by 37 public high school teacher-librarians, private high school librarians, and library science students from Camarines Sur, Camarines Norte and Albay.
The objective of the recent library training was to equip participants not only on the basics of library organization and management but for them to be able to create the kind of library organization that they want, still considering DepEd school library standards and current theories in organizing a library.
Aside from automating card catalogs, participants were also shared a single application with multiple functional modules to maintain a library system called the INFOLIB. The vital use of computers as part of information and communications technology forming part of current library practices was emphasized, particularly in maximizing library resources from the Internet.
Dr. Arnulfo Reganit, Dean of the AdNU College of Education and Atty. Mila Raquid-Arroyo, Chairperson of the University Social Involvement Council dutifully gave the opening and closing words for this training.
